Friday night footy at Suncorp and I am BUZZING for this one. Queensland Reds hosting the Highlanders, 7:35pm AEDT kick off.
The Reds got absolutely pantsed by the Waratahs in round one (36-12, not great) but they’ve had the bye week to stew on that and now they’re rolling out a stacked team.
Harry Wilson’s back – you know, the bloke who made World Rugby’s Dream Team last year – and Carter Gordon is finally making his Reds debut at 10. All-Wallabies front row too.
The Highlanders aren’t slouches though. Pushed the Chiefs right to the wire last week, lost 26-23 with three tries. Their back three of Nareki, Tangitau and JRTK is genuinely dangerous.
But here’s the thing – the Landers have won one of their last thirteen games in Australia. ONE.
Brisbane heat, Suncorp crowd, five Wallabies back in the squad… yeah I fancy the Reds at home here.

OK so the Reds win and the handicap are basically the same vibe – I just don’t see how the Highlanders win this in Brisbane with their away record.
Won’t repeat myself there. The Tangitau leg is the one I feel the most confident about though?? This kid has scored eight tries in his last nine games. EIGHT IN NINE. At around $2.15 the bookies are practically begging us to take that. He scored against the Crusaders, scored against the Chiefs, and Reds’ edge defence was genuinely awful against the Tahs so there’s space out wide for him to feast.
Wilson anytime try is your value play in here. First game back, number 8, Suncorp crowd going off – he’s going to want to make a statement. Reds will be bashing it up through the forwards and Wilson loves a crash ball over the line.
The under ties it all together because both these teams showed in their openers that defence is ahead of attack right now. Neither side cracked 30 in round 2 and I don’t see a shootout happening tonight. Low to mid 40s feels right.
Big odds, five legs, all of them justified. Chuck a cheeky tenner on it and thank me later.
